Volume

1.  A tank measures 80 feet long, 30 feet wide and 20 feet deep.

A.  Calculate the volume in cubic feet.

B.  How many gallons will the tank hold?

2.  A spherical water tower needs to be refilled after service.  If the tank is 30 feet in
diameter, what is its capacity in gallons?

A.  How many pounds will that amount of water weigh?

3.  How many gallons of water will a tank with a diameter of 30 feet and a height
     of 60 feet hold?

4.  A standpipe has a diameter of 25 feet with an overflow 50 feet above the base.
The tank is 50% full of water.  How many gallons of water are in the tank?

5.  How many gallons will it take to fill a 10-inch pipe that is 250 feet long?

Pressure

          6.  Six pounds per square inch (psi) equals how many feet of water?

7.  15 feet of water exerts how many psi?

         8.  A head of 250 feet of water is equivalent to what pressure at the base?

9.  The fire department requires a pressure of 60 psi.  How high must the water
in the tower be to provide this pressure?

10.  The water level in the tower is 1 foot below the overflow.  The overflow is at
130 feet.  What is the reading on the pressure gauge that is located 10 feet
above the base of the tower?

Drawdown

The drawdown of a well is the amount the water level drops once pumping begins.

11.  The water level in a well is 25 feet below the ground surface when the pump
is not in operation.  If the water level is 48 feet below the ground surface
when the pump is in operation, what is the drawdown?

12.  A well has a static level of 134 feet.  After the pump is started, the level
drops to 189 feet.  What is the drawdown?
