Sample Policy on Laying Water Main Ordinance
Water main and associated service
lines shall be laid by petition of property owners and the total cost assessed
to the property owners involved.
Any time that a water main is taken
out of service and/or the pressure is released from that water main, the Public
Utilities office must be notified. Only a licensed plumbing contractor, in
conjunction with personnel from the Public Utilities staff will be allowed to
work on a water main or service line that is property of the City of _______. If
it is necessary to cut into any water main or service line belonging to the
Utilities, a member of the utilities staff must be present. Before the water
main is put back into service, it must be disinfected, flushed and tested by an
independent, certified laboratory. The written results of the bacteria test must
be on file at the City of _______ office before the water line is put into
service.
In the event that it is necessary
to flush any new water service or main beyond the initial flush to remove
disinfectant used at installation, the cost of that water and time for Utility
personnel will be the responsibility of the owner or contractor. The responsible
party will be determined before further flushing or assistance from Utility
personnel is initiated.
Any new additions or extensions to
the water system of the City of _______ are also covered by the regulations
described in the above paragraph.
