Sample Policy on Tapping Water Mains Ordinance
The City of _________ personnel
will no longer be directly involved with tapping water main on the Public
Utilities water system.
1. All water main taps will
be made by a licensed and insured plumbing contractor. Excavation is to be done
by an experienced, insured, and bonded excavator.
2. All taps, regardless of size,
are to be "wet" or pressure taps unless otherwise specified by the Utilities.
3. All excavations are to be made
according to OSHA guidelines. Safety and safe work practices of all personnel,
other than personnel of the City of ________ are the responsibility of the
contractor.
4. A member of the City of ________
staff will be on site when the water main is being tapped to insure that proper
procedures are followed.
5. The City of ______ will no
longer supply the tapping machine. Tapping equipment will be the responsibility
of the plumbing contractor and must be of the type specified by the City of
_______.
6. Material to complete the tap and
associated water service to the curb stop will be supplied by the City of ______
or the plumbing contractor. All material must be the type and size specified by
the City of _______ and agreed upon by the owner or their contractor before taps
are made.
7. All costs associated with
tapping the water main, including proper backfill, compaction, and surface
restoration, are the responsibility of the owner.
8. The City of ______ assumes no
responsibility, other than for their own personnel, for the safety and/or
liability of other persons or property.
9. If the water service to the curb
stop has been installed previously and unused, the connection fee is _______.
