BENEFITS OF WATER METERS

  • Prevent water mains and conduit from being overtaxed.

  • Increase the efficiency of the entire water system.

  • Render unnecessary expensive extensions to the water system for years to come.

  • Make fire protection more efficient by increasing the water pressure in the mains.

  • Make better plumbing necessary to insure more sanitary and healthful conditions in the community.

  • Allow money now spent for supplying excessive quantities of water to be diverted to more useful channels.

  • Prevent consumers from letting water run all night to prevent freezing unless they are willing to pay for it.

  • Discourage the too common practice of allowing water to run constantly during hot weather to keep it cool.

  • Permit money that otherwise would go for extensions to be used for filtration or other purposes.

  • Enable the water department to determine accurately the amount of water used by domestic, manufacturing, public and other services.

  • Permit the water department to supply a greater number of consumers, with a consequent increase in revenue, by reducing the per capita consumption.

  • Prevent water shortage during dry seasons.

  • Prevent most consumers from having to pay for the extravagant waste of others.

  • Aid in prevention of water waste.

  • Make every customer a self-interested guardian of the water supply.

  • Permit vast quantities of water now uselessly wasted, to be utilized for sprinkling, fountains and other beneficial and beautifying purposes.

  • Compel every customer to pay for the exact amount of water used or wasted.

  • Enable the utility to deal justly and impartially with all.

  • Enable water department officials to concentrate on furnishing better water instead of more water.

  • Enable the department to equitably adjust water rates.

  • Lower the operating cost of the water works.

  • Reduce the amount of water pumped without depriving the consumer.

  • Prevent excessive wear on pumping equipment.

  • Enable the charge to customers for water to be based on the exact cost of furnishing it.
